City of Georgetown
Building Standards Agenda
The five-member
Building Standards Commission
hears appeals and renders decisions on rulings by City building officials regarding code interpretation, enforcement, and substandard housing within the City. The commission also hears requests for variances to City construction codes, including electric issues. Commission members must live in the Georgetown City limits or in the City’s extraterritorial jurisdiction. A minimum of four of the members should be experienced in at least one of the following areas: electrical contracting, real estate profession, architecture, engineering, building construction, fire protection, mechanical contracting {heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC)} and/or plumbing contracting. One Commission member will serve “at-large”. In the absence of qualified candidates from any of these specified categories, the City Council may waive these requirements to fill a vacant post. The Council can also appoint four (or more) alternate members of the Commission, who will serve in the absence of one or more of the regular members when requested to do so by the Mayor or City Manager. There are two regular and three alternate positions available this year.
Building and Standards Board meets every third Thursday of the month at 4:00 p.m. unless otherwise specified.
